CF-2R & CF-3R Forms
CF-2R and CF-3R are the Title 24 certificates of installation and verification. They are what the building department looks for, and they have to match the equipment actually installed.
Compliance documentation follows a chain. The CF-1R states what the design promised. The CF-2R states what the installer actually put in. The CF-3R states what the independent rater measured and verified. When those three agree, the permit closes. When they do not, the inspector has questions and the job waits.
Most of the delays we see are paperwork, not equipment: a model number on the form that does not match the unit on the roof, a measure claimed on the CF-1R that nobody verified, or forms completed but never registered with a provider. We handle the registration as part of testing so the documentation exists where the building department expects to find it.
What the Testing Involves
- Forms completed from measured results, not from the plan set
- Registered with a state-approved HERS provider
- Model and serial details matched to the installed equipment
- Copies distributed to you, the contractor and the homeowner
What You Receive
- Registered CF-2R and CF-3R documentation
- Copies for your records and the homeowner
- Documentation the building department can look up directly
Common Questions
What is the difference between CF-2R and CF-3R?
The CF-2R is the certificate of installation, completed for what was installed. The CF-3R is the certificate of verification, completed by the independent rater who measured it. Most projects requiring HERS verification need both.
Can you fix forms someone else started?
Usually. Send us what exists and the permit information and we will tell you what is missing and what has to be retested versus simply re-registered.
How fast do we get the paperwork?
Typically the same day or the next morning after testing, assuming everything passed.
