Refrigerant Charge & Airflow
New and replacement air conditioning systems are verified two ways: the refrigerant charge is confirmed by the method the equipment calls for, and the airflow across the coil is measured rather than assumed.
These two go together because each one hides the other. A system moving too little air across the coil will read like a charge problem. A system charged incorrectly will look like an airflow problem. Testing both, in the same visit, is the only way to know which is which.
Getting either wrong is expensive in ways that show up later: capacity the homeowner paid for and never receives, longer run times in a September heat wave, and compressors that wear out years early. It is also the most common reason a change-out fails verification, which is why we would rather find it on test day than after the inspector has been out.
What the Testing Involves
- Charge verified by the method your equipment and the code require
- System airflow across the coil measured, not estimated
- Both results read together so the real cause is clear
- Findings documented for Title 24 compliance
What You Receive
- Documented charge verification results
- A measured airflow value for the system
- Registered CF-2R and CF-3R documentation
Common Questions
Can you test in cool weather?
Some charge verification methods depend on outdoor conditions. We will tell you when we schedule whether the weather supports the method your equipment requires, or whether a different method applies.
What if the charge is off?
The installing contractor corrects it and we verify again. We are not there to adjust the system ourselves, we are there to measure it independently, which is the point of third-party verification.
Does a mini-split need this?
Often yes, depending on the system and what the compliance documentation requires. Send us the model and the CF-1R and we will confirm before anyone drives out.
Need Refrigerant Charge & Airflow This Week?
Call with the address and the scope, or send it through the form. We will tell you exactly which tests the permit triggers.
